On their 10th anniversary, Nancy Drool finally launches their independently released self-produced CD "The Mystery of The Clueless Heart", featuring 12 tracks of their favorite compositions written in 1999-2003.

Recorded and engineered by Mark Escueta, Shinji Tanaka, and remixed by Joel Bohol.

Nancy Drool is Haya Santiago-Florendo's brainchild, born in 1999 with the help of Jaja Pelayo, Tiffany Cortez and Myla Orogo. In 2001, Mutya Bose and Julius Sanvictores joined the band.

We decided to hold a small party as a culmination of our work on the recordings, a celebration of the 10 years spent together and a hearty farewell to Mutch leaving the country, as well as Nancy Drool.

WE'D LOVE TO SEE YOU ALL THERE! :))))))

VENUE: Magnet, High Street , Fort Bonifacio
TIME: 4:45pm - 9pm, APRIL 4, 2009 (Saturday)

Oct. 25, 2008 - Gimik to death: Went ukay shopping in Cubao with Haya, Mutch, and Jules, watched Marty McFly at Saguijo, tried to catch the album launch of Ang Bandang Shirley in CubaoX, and gatecrashed Chino's belated birthday bash somewhere in Timog. So much happened in one night! Fun times indeed.

Sept. 20, 2008 - Groupie duty for Shoulder State at Will's Attic (which is just a 15-minute walk from my house, by the way). Hehehe. Mainly that just meant I became the self-appointed official photographer along with Chino's girlfriend Tessa, haha. The boys played a new instrumental piece, plus a new song called Handicap Tiles which I loved. Yaay for new songs! Lots of good vibes and good music. Two things I'm very drawn to. :) And Rio!!! Plus/Minus, waaaahhh!!! *latches onto your arm* 8)

Eraserheads Reunion Concert 2008

At last! THE concert and THE band. Together after 6 years. I wouldn't miss it for the world. Not when tickets got more easily accessible. ;) And I got my money's worth, even if Ely had to sadly be brought to the hospital during the break. To Ely, God bless you man, you're my hero right now. I'll be praying for your health. It was definitely not lost on me how much you endured your own personal pains just to make other people happy. Get well sooonn! *hugs you in my mind*

I went to see the concert with my old college friends Paching and her sister Joan, her friend Kcaty, Etch, and my bandmate Jules. We had a blast! Patron area rocks!

A Watchmen Teaser

This is completely nerdy, but I couldn't stop squealing over this when I saw it yesterday (and I would have blogged about it sooner if I hadn't been Plurking so damn much, haha). Alan Moore's Watchmen is one of the latest comics being turned into a movie, and well, having just finished reading and becoming a fan of the comic myself, I got so psyched when I found out that 300 director Zach Snyder will be directing it. I personally thought that he did an awesome job with 300, so I have some faith that he'll do Watchmen justice. I mean, just check out this awesome teaser pic of the Minutemen!

Dorky as they are, they look soo like the comic that it gives me hope that this'll be a good adaptation as well. :) I'm willing to give it a chance anyway.
In Which A Writer Inspires Me Yet Again

Probably old news for some of you, but J.K. Rowling was recently invited to give a commencement speech at Harvard. Just now, I got a copy of the speech she gave through my high school batch's mailing list, and, wow, my eyes watered a little as I read it. Very inspiring. It reminded me of the things Neil Gaiman said when he was here and giving talks about imagination, too. I can never say it as eloquently as they did, but I have always believed in the importance of imagination also. When you're an only child, it's pretty much your constant companion.

Sad to say, I don't think I've used it much for grander goals than to escape boredom. Or how to get closer to a boy. Or getting a rockstar's autograph and getting into concerts free. Or how I can best recycle paper, because I care about the trees. Or coming up with basslines for songs. Oh, and writing for work, and sometimes short fiction (though I never finish anything because I lose steam easily). Hmm, medyo nagamit ko na rin naman p...

French Film Festival 2008

It has already started, but it's still ongoing at the Shang Cineplex of the Shangri-La Plaza Mall 'til the 22nd, so go see as much films as you can! :)

Here's the complete list of films to be shown and their schedules.

Try to go 2 hours before the screening time of the film you plan on seeing, because that is when they start handing out the free tickets you need to get in. They run out quite fast, so don't be late, lest dates get ruined, the girls become VERY unimpressed, hearts get broken, and the world melodramatically ends yet again. And we hate it whenever that happens don't we? ;)

Steampunk Rules!

Just how awesomely cool is Steampunk?! As a general fan of all things Victorian (mostly because of *roll eyes* Tim Burton's influence I must say, add to that my early love for stories like those of Jules Verne and H.G. Wells) and a frustrated technophile at heart, I think it's just the most brilliant idea ever this side of geekdom. I can't believe I just found out about this now!

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, here's a video I found that features a steampunk artist and his work. A bit of background info on the craft is also provided.

Check out the featured artist's site, and numerous more examples of steampunk here.

Nerd Troubadour

I first heard of Jonathan Coulton a year or two ago from Wil Wheaton, and then recently I came across this article about him that pretty much sealed my curiosity about the guy, so I started reading a bit of his blog and downloaded some of his songs.

Well, the music ain't anything mind-blowingly spectacular, in fact he sounds like a bunch of other geek rock bands that I can't name off the top of my head at the moment. But still quite likeable; I like him anyway, his music makes me smile/smirk. If that makes me lame, then just go away, heh. What sets him apart I think, is his lyrics. Totally geek-witty, I love it! And he's really a geek, so in that sense at least no one can say he's a poser or anything dumb like that. He's part-Weird Al Yankovic-novelty, part-folk, part-geek rock. But most important of all, his story is inspiring, and that makes him cool in my book.

He's probably got a million songs floating around already (he's so prolific), and I'm a late fan, but these are the o...

Jan. 4, 2008 - First Friday-night-gallivanting for the year with old friends Abby, Julls, Mae, Irish, Ria, and Ronald. Haven't seen most of these guys in a while, so there was a lot of catching up, yakking, joking (read: barahan mostly by Ria, haha!), eating, drinking, and of course, camwhoring.

Sputnik Launch

Nov. 17, 2007 - Went with two mild-mannered geeks, Ronald and Jam, to the Sputnik Comic Bookstore launch at the CubaoX. Bands Marty Mcfly and Shoulder State put up a heckuva show, and just a couple of doors down Mogwai Bar was also having their launch. Yaay for their yummy but affordable wine! :) It was a bad time for my digicam to die out on me, but good thing Photographer Jam was there to save the day; the following pics were taken by him and his awesome cam (too bad the Gorillapod didn't get to see much action, kaka-aliw sya, mehn!), and he says there's more to come, which means I'll be photo-grabbing some more, haha! Thanks dude!

Oh, and I saw a falling star that night! Wala lang. Cool Stardust moment.

"Sweeney, waiting... I want you, bleeders!"

At last! A teaser trailer for Tim Burton's next masterpiece, Sweeney Todd! A musical no less! Excuse me while I go into deranged fangirl mode right now, I've been waiting for a teaser for ages. Kindly cover your ears for a moment please. *insert high-pitched screams and incoherent whimpers here*

And Johnny! Is there anything you CAN'T do?! You fucker, I love

Gaiman Overload

I'm posting these mostly for Jing (the Freak) and Ronald (the Clueless but Curious), but any Gaiman fan is free to listen in. These are interviews and a reading from Anansi Boys (at Rockwell) he did when he was here back in 2005. I don't remember where I got these anymore, but thanks to whoever posted these online. Sound quality ain't very good as you move along, but DEFINITELY worth the patience.

WARNING: VERY inspiring to hear. Listen at your own risk.
